Foodie Haven in Charleston, SC
| By: Staff Editor, PremiereCharleston.com | 09/20/2008 |
As I was walking downtown in Charleston, SC the other night, I was not only struck by vicious hunger pangs but also with the realization that the Charleston peninsula has such a wide range of restaurants; a hasty snack-on-the go could not possibly be an option.
Charleston, SC has many great restaurants spread out across its towns but if you want to enjoy the buzz of downtown Charleston, you'll find a foodie haven catering to all or most palates and dining desires. There are the swanky places, the eclectic, the boisterous, the romantic, the homey diner, the tourist, the Southern-charmed, and the greasy-spoon no-frills places, and when you step on the streets of downtown Charleston, it can be a feast for greedy eyes.
Over the years of living in Charleston, SC, I have sampled and feasted my way through many of the eateries in downtown Charleston, and I've often stayed true to my local favorites. So that hot, steamy evening, I ventured through the swarming crowds and encountered new culinary adventures in restaurants that I would not ordinarily have considered. I can now say that I have extended my list of favorite Charleston restaurants (and of course, to always be prepared in case of a gastronomic emergency, I have their phone numbers programmed into my cell phone).
There are too many restaurants to name, but some of Charleston's best gastronomic experiences can be enjoyed at High Cotton, Tristan, Hank's Seafood, FIG, Basil, Rue de John, and Il Cortile del Re. I hate to omit the other restaurants who are deemed worthy of being named, but if I rattle on and on, I'll work up a raging appetite.
So what restaurant did I choose? Well, let's just say, my night didn't end as hastily as I had originally intended. Instead, I sipped, I imbibed, I nibbled, I savored∧ then moved on for more∧ more∧ more. Whether it was one, two, or three establishments, it doesn't matter. The only thing that does matter is that there's a foodie haven out there in downtown Charleston, waiting for my return.
